The Rose that Grew from Concrete

The Rose that Grew from Concrete
By Tupac Shakur

Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it
learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.

• 1. What is concrete? Explain, using imagery, what it looks, feels, smells, tastes and sounds like.
• 2. What is a rose? Using imagery to explain it.
• 3. What is the tone of this poem?
• 4. What is the message of the poem?
• 5. What figurative language does the poet use?

Quarter 3

Dear Students,

Welcome back to school! We have started a unit on Poetry and we have been learning some new terms like metaphor, simile and imagery. We will be reading Langston Hughes' poetry this week. You will be sure to enjoy it.
Congratulations on completing two MAP tests. We have more at the end of the week and next week. You have done very well so far.

Please remember when completing your blog posts, to read over them three times before posting. I would like your very best work  up on the web.

All  the Best,
Miss Patrice
