Final Project: Due January 11th and 12th

When my name was Keoko Final Project
Assigned: Monday, December 5, 2011
Due Date:  January 11th and 12th
Choose only one of the following. This project should be a high quality and professional project that demonstrates your understanding of the novel. You will have limited time to work on this project in class; the majority of your project will need to be completed outside of class. You can work alone or with a partner.
You will present your work on January 11th and 12th
CHOOSE ONE:
1.       Video Game Manual (2 people)
You are a computer programmer that designs video games. People have been anticipating the release of a brand new video game and per-orders are setting records! Your job is to write the Instruction Manual for the new anime game Keoko. Your boss has insisted that the following elements be included in the manual.
a.       About the characters: character descriptions, skills and abilities
b.      Levels: at least six levels that relate to settings from the novel
c.       Controls: point of view
d.      History of the Game: background information and summary
e.      How to score points and win the game: conflict and overcoming it
f.        Special Bonus features: how to score extra points or gain extra levels
g.       Different modes of play: single player, team, player vs. Computer
h.      Technical Assistance: where to go or who to call if you need help playing the game
i.         Credits: who helps create the game

2.       Soundtrack (2 people)
You are a very successful music producer. You’ve worked with the top names in the industry and have now been presented with a new opportunity. When my name was Keoko is being turned into a movie (which is expected to be an absolute blockbuster) and you’ve been asked to create the soundtrack. Keep in mind that the soundtrack should match the mood of the movie, so you will need to choose music that fits with the scenes. Here are the elements you must include with your product:
a.       Choose 6 songs and list them with the artist and the lyrics.
b.      Connect each of the songs with a SPECIFIC scene from the novel.
c.       Write a 3-4 sentence explanation of your reason for including each song on the soundtrack.
d.      Your final product will be a CD including front and back covers with illustrations. Create the soundtrack by downloading the songs onto a CD. (Create your CD early before the due date; technical problems must be solved before the due date
3.       Children’s Book
You are a children’s author. You’ve recently met Linda Sue Park at a writer’s convention and discussed her book When my name was Keoko. She’s impressed with your books for young children and has asked you to turn part of her young adult novel into a children’s picture book. You love her book and are delighted to be asked, so you accept. Your editor has given you some basic elements that must be included with your book.
a.       Illustrations: Children’s books are beautiful to look at and tell a large part of the story through images. There is rarely white space left on the page.
b.      Plot: The children’s book might not cover the entire period of time in the novel. Your children’s book should still have an introduction to the setting and characters, action leading up to some kind of conflict, a situation where the main character has to overcome an obstacle, and some kind of lesson learned from the conflict. It may just be one part of the novel’s plot.
c.       Final product: You book should have a front cover, text of your story, at least six illustrated pages, and back cover that includes an “About the Author” section.

4.       Movie Trailer (4 people)
You are a director of many Hollywood films and you have been approached to create the trailer of the next big Blockbuster movie When my name was Keoko.
a.       Create a suspenseful trailer that hooks the viewer into coming to the theatre.
b.      Provide a release date.
c.       Show the main characters in the book and demonstrate their personality traits.
d.      Provide the viewer with the main plot of the story.

5.       Diary
You are Sun-hee.
For this project you will pretend that you are Sun-hee. Your finished project will be a recreation of Sun-hee’s diary before it was burned. Write about events that happened to you in the time period of the novel and about how you felt. Sun-hee’s diary also included poetry. Your diary should include:
a.       At least 6 journal entries of 1-2 paragraphs that tell about your adventures.
b.      At least 3 poems that express your feelings about the events.
c.       At least 5 Korean characters that you have learned how to write through research and their meanings.
